St James Quarter - Escalators

The Light Lab fabricated and installed innovative escalator lighting within St James Quarter, based on the lighting design by LIGHTALLIANCE. To complement the distinct coloured zones—blue, red, green, and yellow—Glowline RGBW linear lighting was custom-designed and integrated into the escalators. Some areas also incorporated SPI pixel control, creating an interactive element to the escalator lighting, with the various different colour programs, changing each time someone steps onto the escalator, therefore effecting the change.

This dynamic lighting solution allows for colour-changing effects, enhancing the vibrancy and flow of the space as visitors move between levels.

In addition, the Light Lab created bespoke ribbon lighting along the sides of the escalators, installed on every level with acrylic panelling. This custom feature provides subtle, continuous illumination, adding to the sophisticated ambiance while ensuring smooth, safe transitions between floors. The lighting elements work in harmony with the shopping centre’s overall design, reinforcing the cohesive, immersive experience throughout the St James Quarter.
